The Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) is a 30-credit degree program designed to help students from different backgrounds become capable accounting professionals. This degree allows students who have accounting undergraduate degrees to broaden their business knowledge with coursework in information systems and finance. Students who are newer to accounting can gain the skills to pursue a career in the field. In this degree, students can pursue either a professional accountancy option or an accounting information systems option.

DEMAND FOR MSA GRADUATES

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment demand is expected to be strong for MSA graduates.

"About 126,500 openings for accountants and auditors are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire."

The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy at The University of Akron consists of faculty with a rich history of education and close relationships with the professional community.

Julianne Jones is a Professor of Practice in Accounting and the Director of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy. Jones has a JD and MTax from the University of Akron and has spent the majority of her professional career practicing in tax. Her research and teaching interests are primarily in taxation, including local, state, national and international.
