The Dr. John Samuel Phillipson Jr. Scholarship
The Dr. John Samuel Phillipson Jr. Scholarship Fund was established through a gift from the estate of Dr. John Phillipson. Dr. Phillipson taught English for 39 years, 25 of those years at The University of Akron. He founded The Thomas Wolfe Review in 1977. This international journal was funded by The University of Akron. This merit scholarship serves as a tribute to Dr. Phillipson's unwavering devotion to students and the field of English.
Prize: TBD, but historically around $650.
Who can enter:
This endowed scholarship will be awarded to a meritorious student enrolled full-time in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences' Department of English, as part of the Scholarships for Excellence program.
