Eduroam WiFi and Virtual Labs

10/16/2020

Information Technology Services has implemented several resources to support online learning for anyone displaced by COVID-19.  ITS has added wireless network coverage to the Computer Center parking lot (Lot 34), allowing students, especially at-risk students, to have access to secure Wi-Fi via eduroam in a safe and physically-distanced manner.

Eduroam is a free wireless network that allows members of participating institutions to connect securely through any other partner institution’s network using your university email address and password. This provides UA students, staff and faculty access to UA’s systems at over 3,000 eduroam locations throughout the world. Information regarding eduroam and a map showing all participating institutions is found here. A new program has begun to have participating institutions in the United States provide the locations of parking lots on their campuses with Wi-Fi available through eduroam. The parking lots with eduroam will be identified on an expanded map that will be available soon.

The Computer Center parking lot is found at the north-east corner of Wolf Ledges Parkway and Carroll St. There are over 250 parking spots available in this lot for those with authorized permits and 6 metered visitor spots available for those without one. Information on how you can connect to eduroam using your University of Akron credentials is found here. If you have any additional questions regarding this program please contact the ITS Help Desk at 330-972-6888.

ITS has also established virtual labs for students to access software usually housed in specialized computer labs on campus, as well as providing access to desktop Microsoft applications.  Students can access these virtual labs by following the instructions on this site.
