Biography
Professor Robert Terry has over 28 years of experience in the field of social work. He has held key leadership positions at public and private social service agencies in Northeast Ohio. He began his career in the early days of the welfare-to-work program in Fremont, Ohio, where he helped unemployed individuals seek and obtain employment. He returned to his hometown of Akron to work in Child Welfare for over 19 years as a caseworker, supervisor, and administrator.
Most recently, before coming to the University of Akron full-time, Prof. Terry was in an executive role as a Compliance Officer at a drug and alcohol treatment center in Summit County. He was instrumental in starting a Video Therapy program at that agency as well. In addition, he was an adjunct professor for seven years at the University of Akron, teaching both MSW and BSW courses.
Prof. Terry has a longstanding interest in technology and the use of technology to improve social service delivery, and participated in the design of two major child welfare computer applications. He is also a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisor Designation (LISW-S) in Ohio.
