Speech-Language Pathology

The clinical opportunities provided to SLP graduate students in their first year of the program include on- and off-campus settings. During the second year, clinical extern opportunities are available in a wide variety of schools, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and clinics. During all clinical opportunities graduate students are supervised by licensed and certified speech-language pathologists

Clinical opportunities for first year students in the Audiology and Speech Center

Evaluation and Treatment for:

  • Listening and spoken language for individuals with hearing loss
  • Augmentative-alternative communication systems
  • Speech disorders (articulation/phonology/dysarthria/apraxia)
  • Pediatric language disorders (receptive/expressive/pragmatic language)
  • Acquired language disorders (aphasia)
  • Acquired cognitive-communication disorders
  • Voice disorders and differences
  • Resonance disorders
  • Fluency disorders
  • Accent modification

Second Year Clinical Externship Opportunities:

The University of Akron's location in Northeast Ohio gives our second year students easy access to many diverse clinical sites in the Akron, Canton and Cleveland areas for their medical and school extern rotations. With permission, students may elect to complete their externships outside of the Northeastern Ohio region.
