Outstanding opportunities beyond campus
A worthwhile college experience is much more than classrooms, books and exams. Our students are encouraged to experience new, vibrant and worthwhile artistic opportunities on campus and beyond.
- Travel Grants and opportunities — Travel opportunities include our annual spring break trip to New York City, faculty-led trips to Chicago, and trips to national conferences and exhibitions throughout the United States. Since 2007 our faculty have led trips to the Venice Biennale exhibitions for students who receive Folk Endowment Scholarships. International summer travel has taken students to China, Japan, Italy, Egypt, Turkey, France, Holland, Brussels and the United Kingdom
- Internships and co-op programs — Students, especially graphic design majors, are encouraged to participate in internships and co-op programs. The resulting advantages are many: money to help pay for college, credit toward a degree, and work experience to prepare for a career. In recent years, students have participated in co-op and internship programs at Disney World, the New York Stock Exchange, the Central Intelligence Agency, and area ad agencies and design studios.
- Free museum memberships — We partner with the Akron Art Museum on many projects and activities. All Myers School of Art students receive free entrance to the Akron Art Museum by showing their university I.D. Students also benefit from our proximity to The Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Spaces Gallery in Cleveland, The Butler Museum in Youngstown, The Wexner Center in Columbus, The Carnegie Museum, the Mattress Factory and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
- Close to campus — Nearby cultural resources include the world-renowned Cleveland Museum of Art, Akron Art Museum, MOCA Cleveland, Blossom Music Center, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, Playhouse Square and the Spaces Gallery in Cleveland, the Butler Museum of American Art in Youngstown, the Wexner Center in Columbus, the Carnegie and Andy Warhol museums and the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, and an exciting array of small galleries. Dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities abound. Also nearby is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
