Graduate Programs
Graduate students in the Department of History work with faculty mentors practicing history in diverse fields. The department's thematic strengths—which include applied history, public humanities, gender, race, history of science, and transnational history—complement our temporal and geographic range. Students graduate prepared to pursue careers in museums and archives, government agencies, businesses, non-profit organizations, and many other fields.
M.A. in Applied History
This unique program emphasizes hands-on history and prepares students for careers in a wide range of fields, from musuems and archives to government agencies, non-profits, and businesses. Students complete coursework that emphasizes both experiential and seminar-style learning along with capstone projects. Graduates earn both an M.A. in Applied History and a Certificate in Public Humanities.
