The University of Akron (UA) is proud to introduce another new 3+3 B.S./J.D. pathway – this one specifically focused on the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BAHA). This program is strategically designed to empower ambitious students by enabling them to earn both a bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor degree in just six years, as opposed to the traditional seven-year route.

During the third year of undergraduate study, students have the opportunity to apply to the esteemed University of Akron School of Law. This unique approach allows students interested in health care law, including areas such as malpractice insurance, pharmaceutical patents, medical health records, HIPAA compliance and more, to enter their chosen career path sooner.

As the provision of health care becomes increasingly complex, there is a critical need for professionals with a basic understanding of science and the legal considerations involved in managing health care organizations.

Dr. Kristine Kraft, interim director, School of Allied Health, College of Health and Human Sciences, expressed the significance of this program, stating, “This collaboration propels students into a unique fusion of health care and legal expertise, offering students an accelerated journey to becoming influential leaders in these critical fields.”

The Allied Health Care Administration program at UA's College has witnessed substantial growth since it was introduced in 2020, making it the fastest-growing program within the College of Health and Human Sciences. The BAHA courses, crucial for building a foundation in health care administration, are conveniently offered online. Students have the flexibility to choose between on-campus and online elective and general education classes, providing a tailored learning experience.

Applications are now being accepted for the 3+3 B.S./J.D. program, with classes starting in the fall 2024 semester. Prospective students are encouraged to explore this innovative pathway, which not only accelerates their academic journey, but also equips them with a comprehensive understanding of health care administration while embarking on legal studies.

In addition to this new program, other UA 3+3 programs include: Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy/Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Science in Political Science/Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Law/Juris Doctorate, Bachelor of Science in Economics/Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Arts in History/Juris Doctorate.
