Application process step-by-step
BS in Exercise Science (all tracks)
- Apply through the Office of Admissions: Start application
- Choose your "applicant category" and follow that link for further instructions.
- Once you are accepted by the Office of Admissions, you may contact us to enroll as a pre-admit.
- Courses must average 2.5 GPA with an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher for full admission to the program.
- Complete the following prerequisite coursework prior to the Spring semester you wish to apply for full admission into the program:
- EXER 125 Introduction to Exercise Science *
- BIOL 200 Human Anatomy & Physiology I *
- BIOL 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab I
- BIOL 202 Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab II
- ENGL 111 English Composition I *
- ENGL 112 English Composition II *
- PSYC 100 Introduction to Psychology
- COMM 105 Introduction to Public Speaking
Or COMM 106 Effective Oral Communication

*All grades for prerequisite coursework above must be “C” or higher.
- You will be admitted to the major after completing the above coursework with the required grades. Once you are fully admitted you will then be assigned an Exercise Science program faculty advisor.

MS in Exercise Physiology
Pre-admission requirements:
- Bachelors degree from accredited university, conferred prior to program start date.
- Application can be submitted during final semester of bachelors degree.
- No restrictions on type of undergraduate degree; any bachelors degree accepted.
- Full admission = 2.75 GPA or better for all undergraduate coursework OR a 3.00 GPA for the last 64 credits of undergraduate coursework.
- Provisional admission = 2.5 – 2.74 GPA for all undergraduate coursework.
- Undergraduate GPA lower than 2.5 for all undergraduate coursework may preclude an applicant from obtaining admission.
- Note: GRE scores are not required.
Application:
- Applications go through the Graduate School
- To begin the online application, you will need to create an application account
- You may upload the required materials below through this account, or you may email them to gradsch@uakron.edu.
- Three (3) references using either the standard reference form found within the Graduate School online application account OR typed and signed professional reference letters.
- Statement of Purpose
- Forward official undergraduate (and graduate if applicable) transcripts to the Graduate School mailing or email address listed below.
Note: If you attended The University of Akron, you do not need to send your transcripts. - International applicants whose native language is not English must submit evidence of sufficient English proficiency. See options/details here.
Application Deadlines:
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until each program reaches its admission capacity. There is no strict deadline.
- Summer/Fall admission - application material reviews and personal interviews begin early-February
- Spring admission - application material reviews and personal interviews begin early-September
