Statistical Consulting

Students and faculty in the Department of Statistics have been providing statistical assistance to faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, and off-campus clients for decades.  We have recently helped faculty and students from a wide range of subject areas, including Engineering, Nursing, Sports Science, Audiology, Music, and social sciences, as well as off-campus clients from local non-profits, hospitals, and companies. We help with all phases of research, from the planning of projects to statistical computing and the analysis and summary of data.

In addition to helping our clients, our consulting operation serves as a mechanism for undergraduate and graduate Statistics majors to gain valuable experience by interacting with researchers and helping with their projects.  In most cases, clients meet initially with students who are currently enrolled in the course 3470:495/595 Statistical Consulting. Any necessary follow-up work and subsequent meetings are arranged following the initial meeting. 

The Statistical Consulting course runs during each Fall and Spring semester.  So it is best to employ our services between September and April, as we may have no students or faculty available for consulting during the summer. 

Because the consulting operation is used as a means of training our majors, our services are offered for minimal or no cost.  Clients are actually providing a service to us by giving our students vital experiential learning opportunities.  Because of this, we generally do not charge on-campus clients unless the work they require from us is substantial, or if they have a grant that provides funds for statistical help. 

Off-campus clients are billed at a rate of $75.00 for each hour beyond that which is used for the training of our students. 

Faculty researchers who require more extensive or ongoing statistical assistance should arrange to work with a member of the Statistics faculty as a co-researcher on their projects.  In such a case, one should contact Dr. Einsporn, who can help determine which of his colleagues is best suited to assist with your project.
