Dennis Gartman, '72
Dennis Gartman, '72 (BA, English), recently made a gift to the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences to establish the Dr. Sally K. Slocum Endowed Scholarship to honor his beloved former professor.
After completing graduate work at North Carolina State University, Gartman worked as an economist and financial analyst in Charlotte, Chicago, and Virginia. In 1987, Dennis began producing The Gartman Letter, a daily commentary on the global capital markets. He has lectured on capital market creation around the world, and appears often on CNBC, BCC-TV and Bloomberg television.
Gartman visited the UA campus in the spring of 2010 to share his international trading expertise with undergraduate and graduate students as well as local alumni in the wealth management field. He recently became a member of the investment committee of The University of Akron Foundation.
As a result of Gartman establishing the scholarship in honor of Slocum, a former colleague of Slocum, Dr. Dale K. Doepke, designated an estate gift to the fund.
