Graduate Degree Requirements
M.S. with Thesis Option: (30 credit minimum)
- 24 credits in graduate-level chemistry coursework (with approval of advisor, up to 12 credits may be taken in related areas)
- 6 credits of research
- Acceptable thesis
- Participation in departmental seminars
M.S. Non-Thesis Option: (30 credit minimum)
- 24 credits of graduate-level chemistry coursework (with approval of advisor, up to 12 credits may be taken in related areas)
- 6 credits of chemistry seminars and/or chemistry research and/or graduate-level chemistry courses
As with all masters degrees, all requirements must be completed within six years after beginning graduate-level coursework at The University of Akron.
For the Ph.D.
- 24 credits in graduate-level chemistry courses
- At minimum 2 consecutive years of full-time study (average 9 - 15 credits / semester)
- Written, monthly cumulative examinations
- Oral examination requirement
- Participation in department seminars
- A dissertation reporting research results
- Dissertation defense.
