Admission Procedure
To apply to the graduate programs in psychology you must apply online at the University of Akron Graduate School. Please note that we are not able to receive applications via email.
REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS BEGINS JANUARY 15th
In addition to the online application, the following are required:
- Three letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Transcripts
Please note that one of the advantages of this joint program is that students can work with any of the faculty in the joint program, regardless of the institution to which you apply or are admitted. It is completely appropriate to mention several faculty who you would like to work with in your personal statement, and these faculty do not need to be at the same institution

- Q: Is a writing sample required or recommended?
- A: No
- Q: What should the Statement of Purpose include and how long should it be?
- A: The Statement of Purpose should include research, teaching and service career plans. Also, this statement should include a brief description of how this graduate program would foster these goals. Statements are typically 1-3 single-spaced pages in length.
- Q: Is a recommendation form required with my recommendation letters?
- A: No
- Q: What is the deadline for the Adult Development and Aging program?
- A: We will begin reviewing applications on Jan. 15th.
- Q: Can I apply for a terminal master’s degree through the Adult Development & Aging program?
- A: No
- Q: Are there any supplemental forms that need to be completed?

- A: They can be uploaded directly to the Apply Yourself Online System, sent to the Graduate School or sent to the Psychology Department.

If you are a non-native English-speaker, you should provide a score on the TOEFL. This may be considered as a replacement for a GRE verbal score. Admission to the ADA program is determined by the ADA faculty. However, in order for international applicants who are accepted into the program to enroll for classes and be assigned to assistantships, these students must register with the Office of International Programs. International students are also strongly encouraged to contact Dr. Toni Bisconti to ensure that she has received the necessary documentation.
