Communication

The School of Communication offers a flexible program in Communication. Students who want professional careers can specialize in skills classes designed to help them get ahead in today’s competitive work environment. Co-curricular activities, professional organizations and internships offer practical, hands-on experience.

Other students who want to plan an academic career, will take a more traditional approach to their graduate coursework. This rigorous training prepares Master’s graduates for doctoral programs and/or law schools. UA Master’s graduates are found in doctoral programs – and teaching in universities – across the nation.

Admission Requirements

• Possess an undergraduate degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field; or complete at least 15 semester credits of undergraduate coursework as approved by the School of Communication
• Essay of no more than 500 words outlining reasons for choosing the graduate program in Communication at The University of Akron

Application Deadline

• May 1 for Fall enrollment (only admit for the fall term)

Students seeking a graduate assistantship must have all application materials submitted no later than March 1.

Assistantship/Scholarship Information

Not all departments offer graduate assistantships. Students should inquire with the department directly to determine assistantship availability.

Financial Aid Information

Paying for college is a vital part of the education process. It is important to be informed of the many sources of aid available. Student loans are available to degree-seeking graduate students. Information on student loans can be found through the Office of Student Financial Aid. The Office of Student Financial Aid is located in Simmons Hall.
