The University of Akron will be participating in National Constitution Day with several days of activities. Constitution Day is a national celebration of the day the U.S. Constitution was signed. The United States Congress passed legislation in 2005 making it mandatory for every institution of higher education in the U.S. to celebrate Constitution Day on or around Sept. 17 on their campuses.
Activities for the week include:
Week of Sept. 13
For people who have an interest in observing a constitutional law class, seats will be available the week of Sept. 13 in Professor Will Huhn’s class, which meets Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 - 8:50 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursdays 9-10:30 a.m. in Room 151, or they can attend Professor Bill Rich’s class on Wednesday from 6:30–7:50 p.m. or Thursday from 8:10–9:30 p.m. in Room 165.

“The Effects of the Civil Rights Movement Upon the U.S. Constitution,” 12:15–1 p.m. School of Law Room Atrium
Professor Will Huhn will discuss the Civil Rights Movement and its profound impact on America and on the interpretation of the Constitution of the United States.
Thursday, Sept. 16
"The 10th Amendment: Liberty's Best Hope or Tea Party Delusion?" 12:15–1 p.m. in Room 151 at the School of Law
Robert Alt, a senior legal fellow and deputy director of the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies of the Heritage Foundation, will give a talk focused on renewed interests in the 10th Amendment by tea party groups, especially those states/groups trying to use it to get the Health Care Law declared unconstitutional. Commentary will be presented on his talk by Professor Richard Aynes, director of the Constitutional Law Center at the School of Law. This program will be sponsored by the Federalist Society.
