Book Signing to be Held March 30 For "Feminist Legal History: Essays on Women and the Law"

The University of Akron School of Law will be hosting a book signing and reception for “Feminist Legal History: Essays on Women and Law,” by Tracy A. Thomas, professor of law and Dr. Tracey Jean Boisseau, professor of history. Join the authors in the law school atrium from 4:30 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 for a discussion about the book, followed by a reception and book signing.

“Feminist Legal History,” published by New York University (NYU) Press, represents feminist legal historians’ efforts to begin to define their field, by showcasing historical research and analysis that demonstrates how women were denied legal rights, how women used the law proactively to gain rights, and how, empowered by law, women worked to alter the law to try to change gendered realities. Encompassing two centuries of American history, thirteen essays expose the ways in which legal decisions have hinged upon ideas about women or gender, as well as the ways women themselves have intervened in the law.

Tracy A. Thomas is professor of law at The University of Akron School of Law and author of the forthcoming book “Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the Feminist Foundations of Family Law," also published by NYU Press. Tracey Jean Boisseau is associate professor of history at The University of Akron and author of “White Queen: May French-Sheldon and the Imperial Origins of American Feminism” (Indiana University Press 2004).
