Students inducted into college's scholastic honorary

On April 19, The University of Akron’s Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences welcomed 104 members to Phi Sigma Alpha – the college’s scholastic honorary and highest academic honor offered to its juniors and seniors. To become Phi Sigma Alpha members, juniors must carry a 3.50 grade point average, and seniors a 3.25 GPA. Of the 104 Phi Sigma Alpha inductees this year, 50 are juniors, 52 are seniors and one is a Summer 2010 graduate.

In addition, 10 students have been awarded scholarships. 

Cathryn Carroll Taliaferro Scholarship:

  • John Miller, a junior biology major from Rittman.

Dr. Sheldon B. Liss Endowed Scholarship:

  •  Eric Copenhaver, a junior philosophy major from Morgantown, W. Va.

Individual Phi Sigma Alpha Scholarships:

  • Nikolas Krieger, a junior in statistics from North Royalton
  • Marissa Watson, a senior in biology from Lexington
  • Matthew Phister, a junior in political science Akron; and
  • Monica Gray, a junior in chemistry from Poland.  

 Henry W. and Ruth G. Meyer Endowed Scholarships:

  • James Ohlinger, a junior in biology from Amherst
  • Natalie Bain, a junior in psychology from Warren
  • Anthony Dao, a junior BS/MD student from Troy; and
  • Ashutosh Udipi, a junior BS/MD student from Solon.
