The Office of Accessibility honored four faculty and staff members on October 28, 2011 with the Celebrating Inclusive Excellence Award. The award was developed to recognize outstanding faculty and staff who have demonstrated excellence in teaching or service provision for students with disabilities.
Dr. Gerald W. Young, professor of mathematics from the Department of Mathematics, along with Claude Collins and David Devany from the Department of Public Service Technology and Galen Kariker from the School of Music was honored this year. This marks the second time in 2011 for a Department of Mathematics professor to be honored by the Office of Accessibility. During the spring semester, Dr. J. Patrick Wilber was honored as a Faculty Spotlight Advocate.
Nominations were solicited from student with disabilities across campus and the winners were selected by a committee within the Office of Accessibility. Each winner represents the very best of nominees and embodies the attitudes and practices characterized by inclusiveness, celebration of diversity and understanding disability as a natural part of the human experience.
