With the goal of encouraging young adults in the Akron area to attend arts events, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has awarded $120,000 to E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall at The University of Akron.

Thomas Hall is using the funds for innovative performances this season and next, and to provide free tickets to young adults ages 25 to 40.

Many of the Knight-supported performances are at the hall’s intimate and innovative Stage Door venue and feature artists who are young and edgy trendsetters. Among them are:

  • The Hot Sardines, a Bourbon Street/Paris cabaret-style ensemble on Feb. 13
  • GroundWorks DanceTheater on March 5 and 6,
  • Cameron Carpenter, organ prodigy, on March 13
  • UA Steel Drum Band on April 18

UA students have been able to get free tickets for several years through a University-funded program.

Young adults ages 25 to 40 can sign up for Community ZipTix to receive offers of Knight-supported free tickets.
