Imagine you are a high school student who plays an instrument, sings in a choir or marches in a band. You wonder if it would be a good idea to major in music, or at least keep making music while studying for a business or engineering degree.
Whatever doubts you may have had would have been put to rest on the morning of Nov. 7 at The University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, where the School of Music performed its annual “Collage” concert in front of more than 1,500 visiting middle- and high-school students from 17 Northeast Ohio schools ranging from Litchfield to Sandy Valley.
ninth year, showcases the best that the School of Music has to offer. Performers – hundreds of faculty and student musicians – appear and disappear throughout the concert hall for two nonstop 45-minute sets. Spotlights and musical cues pull the viewer first to a jazz band, then to a symphony orchestra, then to opera singers, followed by steel drums, then a full concert choir, then to acoustic guitar, up and over to a brass quintet, and back down again to UA’s “Ohio’s Pride” marching band drumline, then a grand finale by the symphonic band.
The spectacular musical kaleidoscope was performed again in the evening for adults and families.
