New exhibition at Emily Davis Gallery featuring student works

The Myers School of Art presents the 83rd annual Juried Student Exhibition, on display from Feb. 13 to March 1. This exhibition features artwork from almost 60 students of all academic levels and disciplines. There are more than 85 pieces of art made of different media in the exhibition that represent current student culture and thought. Student participants are awarded first, second and third place prizes along with honorable mentions determined by the guest juror.

The public is encouraged to join the UA community in attending this free exhibition and observing the skills and artworks these students have developed in their classes. An opening reception will be held in Emily Davis Gallery in Folk Hall on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. Awards will be announced at 6 p.m. Participant prize donations have been provided by local businesses.

UA alumna, Dragana Crnjak, an associate professor of painting and drawing at Youngstown State University, is the guest juror. Crnjak was born in the former Yugoslavia and moved to the United States in 1997. She received a B.F.A in painting here and an M.F.A. in painting and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Crnjak received the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award in visual art in 2008, 2011 and 2015, a Research Professorship from Youngstown State University, and a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Fellowship in drawing. Her most recent solo exhibition, "As if Staying," was held at the Butler Institute of Art in 2017. Her most recent group exhibition, "Frameworks," with Andrea Joki and UA art professor Matthew Kolodziej, was displayed at the Akron Art Museum in 2018.
