Best-selling author Rebecca Traister will share a history of single women March 14

The Women’s Studies Program at The University of Akron is bringing New York Times best-selling author, Rebecca Traister, to campus on Wednesday, March 14. She will present “All the Single Ladies: A History of Single Women and Social Change in America” from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Jean Hower Taber Student Union Ballroom. 

Traister is a writer at large for New York Magazine and the author of New York Times best-seller “All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation.” Over the course of her extensive research, Traister discovered a startling truth — the phenomenon of the single woman in America is not a new one.  And historically, when women were given options beyond early heterosexual marriage, the results were massive social change — temperance, abolition, secondary education and more.

Exhaustively researched and told with Traister's signature wit and insight, her work is a portrait of contemporary American life and how we got here, through the lens of the single American woman.

The event is free and open to public.
