UA is one of eight colleges with teams in Paducah, Ky., for the start of the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA Division II) 2014 World Series. This is the club’s first appearance in the World Series in only its second year as a club and first full season as a member of the NCBA.
UA’s Club Baseball team enters as the third seed, and plays Minnesota State – Moorhead first. If all goes well, the Zips will play for the national championship on May 20 under the lights at 7:30 p.m. Follow the 2014 NCBA Division II World Series online.
To win a spot in the NCBA 2014 World Series, the top-seeded Zips had to first win the District IV Tournament, held May 2-4. The team swept the competition -- first Ohio State, then Eastern Kentucky and California University of Pennsylvania -- to claim the District IV Championship.
Joining UA are The College of William & Mary, Colorado Schools of Mines, Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, Penn State University, Minnesota State – Moorhead, University of Central Missouri and SUNY Brockport.
Conference play for the club baseball team begins in October and resumes in April. Akron, along with Slippery Rock, Kent State, Cleveland State and Edinboro, plays in the NCBA District IV – North conference. This season, the Zips finished the regular season with a 12-0 conference record and 17-1 overall.
