Applications are open for the summer pre-law program at Akron Law
As part of The University of Akron’s sesquicentennial celebration — honoring 150 years of our people, place and promises — we are hosting a “Celebration of Academic Excellence” to highlight the history and future of our colleges, schools and academic disciplines.
Today we continue to honor the achievements of the School of Law.
Summer pre-law program at Akron Law
For the fourth-straight summer, The University of Akron School of Law will host the LSAC Prelaw Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program – an immersive program open to rising undergraduate sophomores and juniors with diverse backgrounds who want to explore a legal education.
The 2021 program will run from June 1st through June 25th in a virtual format. There is no cost to participate. Each participant will receive a $1,000 stipend upon completion of the program, as well as free LSAT testing, fee waivers, and additional financial support through the law school application process. Completed applications must be received by March 31.
Developed by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), the LSAC PLUS Program is specifically aimed at students who are underrepresented in the legal profession. However, anyone can apply. During the application process, applicants have the opportunity to demonstrate ways in which they can benefit from the program.
Akron is one of eight law schools hosting a LSAC PLUS Program this summer. The proven LSAC PLUS Program curriculum helps students explore their interest in the law, understand the skills needed to succeed in law school, gain insights on the legal profession and future career options, and learn more about navigating the law school admission process. Students also build confidence and community through supportive networking and mentoring relationships.
“We pivoted to an online format last year on short notice, but we still produced a great program ,” said Emma Schulze, the law school’s Director of Admissions and Co-Director of the LSAC PLUS Program at Akron Law.
“Even though it was virtual, we still succeeded in creating a strong sense of community among the 32 students. They heard from and questioned prominent attorneys, legal scholars, and authors, as well as younger lawyers. They also got a taste of rigorous coursework in legal writing and classroom-style discussions of legal topics.”
Interested undergraduates are encouraged to visit the LSAC Plus Program page on the Akron Law website for more information and to apply to be part of the class of 2021.
