Akron, Ohio, Jan. 13, 2009 - Professor J. Dean Carro, a 1978 graduate of The University of Akron School of Law, has been named by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in Ohio. Only five percent of the lawyers in the state are named by Super Lawyers.

J. Dean Carro has been with The University of Akron School of Law since 1978. He is currently the Dean's Club professor of law, professor of clinical education, director of the appellate review office and director of the legal clinic. He received his B.A., cum laude, from State University of New York at New Paltz. Carro teaches Clinical Seminar: Criminal Law, Appellate Advocacy, Trial Advocacy, and Criminal Procedure. His areas of research include prisoner civil rights actions, post-conviction (state and federal), criminal and appellate (state and federal).
He is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. In addition to being a past president of the Akron Bar Association (2007-08), his professional memberships include the Scanlon Inn of Court, American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, American Arbitration Association, Federal Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel and Rules Advisory Committee, and Association of American Law Schools Committee on Clinical Education.
Carro was recently appointed to two magistrate judge re-appointment committees by Chief Judge Carr of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and to chair one of the committees. He has appeared on two merit cases in the United States Supreme Court, as well as numerous merit cases in the Supreme Court of Ohio and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Including arguments before various state Courts of Appeals, Professor Carro has presented over 200 appellate arguments. He frequently presents CLEs to judges and attorneys and is a ready resource for the media.
