Tiffany Shlain's vibrant award-winning documentary, "Connected," can be seen March 6-10 at The University of Akron's Student Union Theatre, 303 E. Carroll St.
Admission is free. Showings are March 6 at 7 p.m., March 7 at 1:30 p.m., March 8 at 8:30 p.m., March 9 at 8 a.m., and March 10 at 3 p.m. The run time is 80 minutes.
"Connected" explores the visible and invisible connections linking major issues of our time: the environment, consumption, population growth, technology, human rights and the global economy.
Shlain constructs a chronological tour of Western modernization through the work of her late father, Leonard Shlain, a brain surgeon and best-selling author of "Art and Physics and The Alphabet vs. the Goddess." With humor and irony, "Connected" illuminates the beauty and tragedy of human endeavor while boldly championing the importance of personal connectedness for coping with today’s global conditions. On March 6, Dr. Eunsu Kang of UA’s New Media Program and her students will showcase their work with the new Kinect sensor and interactive games from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the theatre. Participating students include Anita Marquart, Anthony Codispoti, Anthony Mills, De'Andre Rudolph, Durelle Harris, James Okuley, Jeffrey Matheny, Jennifer Court and Kaitlynn Lane.
The showings of "Connected" and the new media demonstration are part of campus events celebrating the convergence of UA's College of Creative and Professional Arts into the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences.
