For students planning to enroll at any time during the 2018-19 academic year (summer 2018, fall 2018 and/or spring 2019), it's time to file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 2018-19 FAFSA became available on Oct. 1 and is posted online at FAFSA. Use 2016 income and tax information for yourself (and your parents, if applicable).
We will be hosting a FAFSA Filing Sunday event where you can receive assistance from financial aid experts on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. in Simmons Hall. The event is open to University of Akron students, applicants and area high school students as well as their parents. For more information and to register, visit FAFSA Sunday.
UA's priority FAFSA deadline is Dec. 1. File by that date to be considered for certain need-based financial aid programs.
Keep in mind that some awards are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's important to file early. While the FAFSA gives you access to federal assistance, it will also allow schools and states to determine what assistance you are eligible to receive from them. So even if you don't think you will receive federal assistance, you should still file the FAFSA.
Students will need these items on hand or readily available in order to complete the FAFSA application. Dependent students may need to request these items from parents as well.
