Biography

Julia A. Spiker (Ph.D., University of Oklahoma) is Professor of Communication at The University of Akron. Her areas of research include political communication, especially the rhetoric of women leaders and the political empowerment of women and girls. Her book entitled, Empowering Women: Global Voices of Rhetorical Influence (2019), presents an overarching, global picture of women’s empowerment through the lens of elite women political leaders’ speeches. She has over 20 journal and book chapter publications and more than 40 conference presentations.
