Peer Mentoring Services
About
The Office of Mentorship & Student Development’s Peer Mentoring Services is a year-long (August-May) academic support program designed to assist new students in successfully transitioning to The University of Akron. The program pairs first-year students with experienced upper-level undergraduates for personalized, ongoing mentorship.
Our Peer Mentors are accomplished student leaders with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, dedicated to guiding mentees toward success in the following areas:
Academic Support
- Sharing effective study strategies, time management techniques, and academic resources.
- Assisting with course planning and setting academic goals.
Personal Growth
- Providing emotional support and fostering a sense of campus belonging.
- Encouraging engagement in extracurricular activities and balancing academics with personal life.
Professional Development
- Offering guidance on career exploration and goal setting.
- Assisting with internships, networking, and building professional skills.
Eligibility
Mentee applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduate students at The University of Akron. While the program primarily serves first-year and transfer students, all enrolled undergraduates are welcome to participate. Admission is offered on a rolling basis.
