Receiving Your Education Benefits
Your Award Letter

Please read it carefully to make sure the dates and amount are correct. Save it for future reference.
Payment Rates
Disbursement
You can either have your benefits electronically deposited into bank account or have a benefits check sent to you via the U. S. Postal Service. You should expect to receive your benefits near the beginning of each month for the prior month. Chapters 30 and 1606 payments may be received a little later due to the self-verification that must be completed after the last working day of each month.
Advance Payment Program
Advance payment of educational assistance allowance is intended to help you meet school-related and other expenses at the beginning of a semester. The payment is your GI Bill allowance for the first two months of school, and the check is issued to The University of Akron at the beginning of the school year. You must be enrolled a minimum of half-time and not be claiming benefits for the full calendar month preceding the start of the semester in which advance payment is requested. You must make your request for advance payment in person (Simmons Hall 120) a minimum of 30 days before your classes begin. Please note that this program is not available for Chapter 31 benefit recipients.
