Biography
Dr. Kara Kvaran is a native of southeastern Michigan. In 2004, she received her bachelor’s degree in history from Eastern Michigan University. She continued her studies in American History and feminist theory at Purdue University and was awarded her master’s degree in 2006 and her doctorate in 2011. Dr. Kvaran’s research interests lay at the intersection of modern American popular culture and gender. Her dissertation, which she is currently revising into a manuscript, was titled Gendered Underground: Men, Women, and American Punk Rock, 1965-1995. She has also written on homosexuality and comic books and is currently working on a socio-economic analysis of slasher films. Dr. Kvaran is new to Akron and is enjoying living in the Highland Square area with her very unpleasant cat.
