UA ALLIED HEALTH ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM MISSION
The Mission of the University of Akron's (UA) Allied Health Administration program is to prepare leaders for the field of Allied Health by including curricular content that includes objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following Allied Health Administration areas; management and operation of health care systems, health services, patient-based care, and information management (health informatics). The UA Allied Health Administration program is a baccalaureate degree that prepares students to become entry-level Allied Health administrators as a member of the health care team for the overall care of a patient as well as instilling life-long learning value that will help our students in achieving their professional personal goals.
Program Goals
The UA Allied Health Administration program implements this mission through clearly-defined program goals and learning outcomes that meet or exceed the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). The program prides itself on the professional behavior and competency skills obtained by its graduates. Well supervised experiential learning is an option through all phases of the curriculum. The UA Allied Health Care Administration programs provides students with the practical foundation to meet the job demands as an entry-level Allied Health administrator in any of the following administrative areas; health unit coordinator, health information management, health services administration, medical office management, or health informatics.
The program goals are:
- Students will develop management and problem-solving skills to be competent for routine and non-routine administrative roles
- Students will develop effective communication skills that affirm the dignity and worth of all patient's, family members, and staff
- To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and effective (behavioral) learning domains of Allied Health administration
Learning Outcomes
Allied Health Administrators are highly-skilled professionals qualified by education to manage health care services. The UA baccalaureate program combines classroom instruction with practical application of knowledge and skills necessary to administer over an inpatient or outpatient medical facility and/or services. At the completion of the degree the student Allied Health Administrator will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
The Student/Graduate Allied Health Administrator will be able to:
- Develop support documentation to meet compliance, regulatory, and accreditation standards
- Utilize coding set and maximize 3rd party reimbursement methodologies
- Apply skills to research, build, and report data
- Apply critical thinking skills and problem solving skills in relation to clinical setting applications
